A happy new year! It's a great honor for me to write the first report of Fuchu TMC English meeting in 2018. We enjoyed many warm and exciting speeches even though it was really cold!

* Table Topics

Table Topics is a style of instant and impromptu speeches. The Table Topics master gives the audience a topic and assign a member as a speaker. The speaker MUST speak about the topic in two minutes. It's a good practice to develop quick response skills.

In this session, the Table Topics master gave us these topics as shown in below,

1. How did you spend the New Year's Day?
2. Where did you go in this Year End and New Year holidays?
3. How did you enjoy this Year End and New Year holidays?
4. What happened in the last year?
5. What do you want to go this year?

Comment: I could know how other members spent this Year End and New Year holidays. And a member talked about his new year's resolution. According to him, he will stop eating too much junk food. It was completely agreeable and I have to learn his determination.

* Prepared Speech

Prepared Speech is a speech according to manuals published by Toastmasters International. A speaker shall speak a speech based on the objectives on the manuals.

In the meeting, we had three prepared speakers.

The first speaker talked about the effectiveness of flowers. Her room didn't looked so nice (according to her). But she put flowers in her room, it looked really nicer than before. Wow, we have to rush to flower shops!

The second speaker told us the adventurous story. When he was a university student he belong to a yacht club. His team participated in a sailing race from Ogasawara islands to Tokyo, about 1,000km! He could learn a lot and what living is from the adventure.

The last speaker introduced herself. Traveling is part of her life. She visited many places, both domestic and overseas. When she visited South Africa, she found serious inequality of the rich and the poor in the country. She was so affected by the situation and after that she got more interested in other countries' and areas' back grounds.

* Evaluation

In Evaluation session, the evaluators pointed out strong points of the prepared speeches and gave suggestions to the prepared speakers to make the speeches better.

Evaluators are required to have skills to listen to speeches carefully and to summarize the points in limited time. When you try this roll, it is so beneficial for you because you can learn a lot from the roll. Even if you are not assigned as an evaluator, you should imagine if you were an evaluator and what you would say to the prepared speech.

* Award Presentation

All attendees selected the best speakers for each session by voting and the MC gave the awards to the best speakers. Congratulations to all!
