The purpose of "Word of the day" is to increase our vocabulary. Members are
encouraged to use the word introduced as many as possible. The word was
"refreshing".
Refreshing has meaning of "pleasantly new" or making you feel less tired or hot.
I think this word is necessary for these sultry days and today's meeting has
become more refreshing than ever.
■Prepared speeches
Prepared speeches are speeches made according to the manuals published by
Toastmasters International. A speaker should make a speech based on the
objectives on the manuals. In the meeting, we had three speakers.
The titles of each speakers are shown below,
#1 My colleague
#2 Language and me
#3 Self introduction
The first speaker gave a talk about his relationship with his colleague "Gen-san".
The speaker expressed "Gen-san" well and enjoyed watching the smiling
relationship between them. The speakers also mentioned the scuba diving tips
and made us feel happy and refreshing.
The second speaker uses 4 languages in her daily life, and her speech was about
"language and me". She introduced us happily about "language" and "human
relationship" that she felt while using four languages while using photos.
The third speaker was a self-introduction speech. He spoke passionately about
his work and the thoughts of English and Toastmasters. His speech had enough
heat to not only melt but also vaporize the ice.
■Table topics
Table topics are in a style of instant and improvised speeches. The Table topics
master gives the audience a topic and assign a question concerning with it to
each speaker. The speaker MUST make a speech about it in 2 minutes. It's a
good practice to develop quick response skills. The table topics for this time was
the idea of the host, "Please appeal this product". The product that must be
appealed was decided just before the speech.
#1 Piggy Bank
#2 Keyboard
#3 Nail Clipper
#4 Butter Knife
#5 Jacket
#6 Head Lamp
Everyone was confused and appealed each product. The speech was excited by
appealing functions that were not possible in practice.
■ Evaluation
In Evaluation session, the evaluators pointed out strong points of the prepared
speeches and gave suggestions to the prepared speakers to make their speeches
better. Evaluators are required to have skills to listen to speeches carefully and
to summarize the points in limited time.

MC gave the awards to the best speakers. They are shown below.
