◆There were around 20 people in the room including 2 guests.
◆Opening
TMOD was Ms. L. She is always cheerful and made the atmosphere festive.
She introduced a Chinese philosopher's saying, "If you let the muddy water be, it will be
clear." I thought it was a nice metaphor teaching us to be patient so that you can get a good
result. Then, that day's word was announced; it was "ASAP (as soon as possible)". Of
course, a quick action is also important at times.
◆Prepared Speeches
There were 3 speakers.
1st speech is about teaching Japanese language. Mr. K is an experienced communicator of
the language and taught us some of the different grammar approaches when teaching
Japanese people and foreigners. Sadly, he will leave our club for a while because of his
health condition. hope he will come back soon.
2nd speech is about non-verbal communication. Ms. Y explained how to send positive
message using body language. She made the topic relatable to us by citing some
conversations with her children.
3rd speaker was Mr. Y. He always entertains us with his funny friends' stories. The speech
was about his high school friend, Mr. T, who predicted the big earthquake in Kobe in 1994.
It was hilarious!
◆Table Topics
TT Master was Mr. T. He'd prepared an interesting topic for us: What has changed since
you become a toastmasters club member? Seven people made their speeches, and they
came up with a wide variety of answers such as "friendship", "preparation skills", "essay
writing skills" and so on.
◆Evaluation
Three evaluators gave their insightful comments with suggestions for speech
improvements. Generally speaking, all of the speakers created excellent speeches. So the
evaluators discussed their postures, hand gestures and vocal variety as their improvement
points. After the evaluation speeches were helpers' reports. The helpers checked the
speeches carefully and gave detailed feedback too. General evaluator, Mr. S. appreciated
the members' active participation and summed up the meeting as a great success.
At the end of the meeting, each award was presented by TMOD, Ms. L. After the meeting,
those who were available had lunch together as always.
